Mining and Reclamation Plan

Black Mesa and Kayenta Mines

The following documents are the mining and reclamation plans for the Kayenta and (currently closed) Black Mesa Mines on Black Mesa in northeast Arizona. They were requested through the Freedom of Information Act by a coalition of grassroots organizations including the Sierra Club, Black Mesa Water Coalition, Dine Citizens Against Ruining Our Environment (Dine CARE), To Nizhoni Ani and the Center for Biological Diversity. While the Federal Office of Surface Mining initially refused to provide the documents, a February 2011 settlement has released them into the public domain.
